Stay in a hand-built log cabin in Kusturica's Drvengrad — a wooden village on top of Mokra Gora, straight out of a film.
Drvengrad (Mećavnik / Küstendorf) is the ethno-village Emir Kusturica built on top of Mokra Gora for his film "Life Is a Miracle" — and never tore down. Your stay is in a traditional log cabin of hand-hewn beams, with a stone hearth and woollen kilim rugs.
Two bedrooms (one in the loft), bathroom, living area with a wood-burning stove, small kitchenette, and a terrace facing the forests of Mokra Gora. Breakfast (organic, from local farms) is included. At the centre of the village you'll find Restoran Lotika, a library, the "Stanley Kubrick" cinema, and a wooden Orthodox church.

Things to do nearby
The Šargan-8 — a historic narrow-gauge railway departing from the station at the foot of Drvengrad — is a must-do. The 2.5-hour ride through eight tunnels and bridges over Mokra Gora is a magical retro experience.
The Drina canyon and Tara National Park are a 30-minute drive away. The Kustendorf film festival is held every January — Drvengrad becomes the epicentre of European auteur cinema. Mileševa monastery with the White Angel fresco is an hour's drive south.

Restoran Lotika in the heart of Drvengrad is widely renowned — modern Vojvodinian and western-Serbian cuisine paired with house-brewed beer from the local microbrewery. Try the raštan-leaf sarma, lamb under the sač, and pita with kajmak. The wine list features the best Serbian vineyards.
Breakfast features organic cheese and kajmak from valley farms, bread baked in a clay oven, Užice pršuta, and homemade plum preserves. Coffee is brewed in a džezva. Everything you eat travels at most 50 km to your plate.

Posebno mjesto
Drvengrad je posebno iskustvo, kao da uđeš u film. Brvnara je udobna, doručak izvrstan, osoblje pažljivo. Šetnja kroz selo uveče, kad zamiriše dim iz dimnjaka, je neopisiva.

A wooden fairytale
Beautifully crafted log cabins, every detail thought through. The restaurant Lotika was the highlight — try the pita with kajmak. Mokra Gora railway right next door. Worth every dinar.

Bajka u brvnari
Boravak u Drvengradu je nešto što se ne zaboravlja. Brvnara je topla i mirisna na drvo, doručak sa kajmakom i medom je neverovatan. Vožnja Šarganskom osmicom je obavezna.

Une expérience hors du temps. Maison en bois, cheminée, petit-déjeuner traditionnel servi avec sourire. Le restaurant Lotika sert des plats serbes raffinés. À voir absolument.
